I have been assisting and supporting women during birth for over 10 years. I began working towards formal certification in May of 2002 by attending a birth Doula training offered by A Child Is Born in Danville, CA. I have continued supporting women giving birth since then and have expanded my services to include extensive prenatal education and also birth photography. I have worked as a postpartum Doula providing various levels of support to new families as needed and have also provided specific childbirth preparation and delivery room support to siblings attending births. I enjoy working not only with the mother but also her partner and other family members who may also be attending the birth and work to complement their abilities to support the mother. In addition to my main practice, I continue to work on a volunteer basis with women who would otherwise not be able to have the support of a Doula – this aspect of my work is very important to me and remains vital to the core of my role as a Doula. For thousands of years there have been Doulas – women attending births and providing unconditional support and strength to women during labor and beyond. These women have traditionally been sisters, mothers, aunts and friends. It helps me to stay connected to the roots of Doula work by continuing to offer Doula services on a volunteer basis to those women who need, but do not have a sister, mother, aunt or friend to support them during this life changing event. My goal is to support my clients in their choices and commitment to the birth that they envision. I help women handle changes as they arise and make informed decisions as the events of her birth unfold. I believe that every woman can have the best birth possible and that every family can be nurtured and respected through this process to emerge whole and strengthened. |
